The Toronto Refinery recently welcomed 7,000 guests as part of Doors Open Toronto, an annual city-wide event celebrating architecturally, historically and culturally significant sites across the city. Despite strong winds that brought an early close on Saturday, the weekend was a tremendous success. Visitors were invited to explore our operations and learn about Redpath® Sugar through a range of interactive attractions and experiences.
"Doors Open is one of the most meaningful events of our year — it gives us the chance to open our doors and share what makes this refinery so special with the people who live and work in our community," said Frank MacLachlan, General Manager. "Even with the weather working against us on Saturday, the energy and enthusiasm from our visitors and our team was incredible. I'm incredibly proud of everyone who made it happen."
Guests enjoyed a variety of activations throughout the weekend:
Cookie Decorating Classes: 240 guests decorated flower-shaped cookies and learned about Redpath® Sugar along the way.
Ask the Expert Tent: Employees answered visitor questions about the sugar-making process and different sugar varieties, while VR headsets offered immersive views of restricted areas of the plant — including the crane unloading raw sugar
Sugar Shed: Visitors explored the raw sugar shed, watched the bulldozer in action and took photos with props and ‘Sugar Mountain’.
Cotton Candy Station: More than 2,700 servings of cotton candy were handed out, drawing long lines and plenty of smiles.
Merchandise Pop-Up: A new limited-edition merch booth sold hats, cups and oven mitts to our many fans.
The success of the event was the result of months of planning and collaboration across departments. Thank you to every team member who contributed to making Doors Open Toronto 2026 a weekend to remember.
