Our company Redpath Sugar was thrilled to serve as the “Student Success Sponsor” for the George Brown College Foundation’s annual Food Court Social fundraiser on October 10 at the George Brown College Waterfront Campus, located down the street from our Toronto Refinery. The event, which was attended by more than 600 guests, featured curated food stations hosted by Toronto’s top culinary talent and raised more than $500,000 for the George Brown College Augmented Education program. This transformative initiative provides free, employment-focused training for individuals navigating mental health challenges and addiction recovery.
A key part of Augmented Education at George Brown College is the Culinary Skills Preparatory Training program, an eight-month course that combines in-person and online learning to equip participants with essential skills for rewarding careers in the food service industry. The initiative includes classroom and kitchen lab instruction, academic support, career readiness workshops and 150 hours of work placement.
“We were delighted to participate in the Food Court Social and support the Augmented Education program,” said Brand Development Manager Ashley Black. “Our partnership with George Brown College underscores our dedication to supporting our community and inspiring the next generation of culinary professionals here in Toronto.”
We partnered with culinary program students on their featured dishes at the event, which included Caramel Pumpkin Cheesecake, Shaved Roast Striploin and Jalapeno Deviled Egg.
Our sponsorship of the Food Court Social reflects our longstanding support for George Brown College. In 2016, we contributed $360,000 to the George Brown College Foundation, aiding the capital expansion of the college’s Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, including the creation of its state-of-the-art Redpath® Sugar baking and pastry lab. The facility serves as a hub for research, innovation and skills development. Our contribution also funded 45 scholarships for students in programs such as Baking and Pastry Arts Management, Baking Pre-employment and the Baker/Pâtissier Apprentice Program.
