We are pleased to have once again been honored by Enbridge, the energy provider for our Redpath Sugar Toronto Refinery, in recognition of the plant’s outstanding energy conservation efforts. Through recent projects and continuous improvement initiatives, the refinery has saved approximately 637,282 cubic meters (m³) of natural gas and reduced 1,231 metric tons (MT) of CO₂e.

"Enbridge offers rebates to help businesses improve energy conservation through efficiency upgrades and other initiatives,” said Himanshu Shah, Sustainability Engineer II. “We’re proud to have been recognized for the success of several recent energy-reduction projects we completed with support from Enbridge’s incentive program.”

As the site sustainability lead, Himanshu works closely with an Enbridge energy advisor to ensure the ongoing success of our energy-reduction efforts, meeting weekly to review projects and continuous improvement initiatives that save natural gas and optimize our energy performance. Key stakeholders across the Toronto Refinery closely monitor the plant’s energy performance by reviewing sustainability KPIs in weekly and monthly meetings, ensuring continuous improvement in energy conservation.

“Our plant leadership, including Plant Manager Rob Gentilcore and Engineering Manager Frank MacLachlan, consistently encourage and provide feedback and guidance on energy-saving incentives,” said Himanshu. “Additionally, with the guidance, expertise and insight of our Technical Process Manager, Narayanan Seshadri, and other key stakeholders, our talented and experienced team in Toronto works hand-in-hand to reduce our energy consumption.”

“Decarbonization, particularly through energy conservation, remains a key focus area for us in Toronto,” said Rob. “Congratulations to our team for helping us achieve this well-earned recognition from Enbridge!”
